Close to Christchurch but a world away

We are very fortunate in the South Island of New Zealand to have so many sites of geological interest. One of my favourites is Castle Hill. It's an hour and a half from Christchurch so you need at least 6 hours to enjoy it. You also need a reasonable level of fitness as the paths are quite rough. This area was under the sea millions of years ago and the rocks have been carved by the currents. For more information go to https://www.castlehill.nz/

The area is made up of several large rock formations. I've left some people in this photo to give you some perspective of the size!

#Ngaitahu is the local iwi in Te Waipounamu, the South Island, and their ancestors are honoured by some beautiful sculptures.
