Often people in New Zealand comment that the beach was busy but their idea of busy would be 20 people! If you like to be away from the crowds then New Zealand is the place for you. Here's a photo of the bottom of the Brighton Spit - about 20 minutes from Lyttelton Port. You can walk around the spit in around one hour. Start at Southshore and walk around the spit on the beach side at first then finish on the estuary. An easy 10,000 steps.
